Mobile wheel balancing in the UK typically costs about £15 to £30 per wheel, or roughly £50 to £90 for a full set of four, compared with around £7.99 to £15 per wheel at a fixed garage. The extra covers a fully equipped van coming to you in Glasgow or anywhere in Scotland. Call 07955 533000.
If you have felt a shimmy through the steering wheel somewhere around 65mph on the M8, you are in the right place. That is the most common balancing job we do.
Mobile Wheel Balancing Prices At A Glance
Here is what the market charges in 2026. Garage figures are taken from published chain prices, mobile figures from what mobile operators across the UK are charging.
| Service | Typical UK garage price | Typical mobile price |
|---|---|---|
| Single wheel balance | £7.99 to £15 | £15 to £30 |
| Two wheels | £16 to £30 | £30 to £55 |
| Full set of four | £32 to £60 | £50 to £90 |
| Balance included with new tyre fitting | Usually free with tyres | Built into the fitted price |
| Van or light commercial wheel | £10 to £18 per wheel | Higher, more weight and time |
| 4×4 or large diameter alloy | £10 to £18 per wheel | Higher, larger assembly |
| Road force balance, where offered | £15 to £30 per wheel | Rarely offered mobile |
| Out of hours or night callout balance | Not available | Priced on the job |
We have not printed a single fixed figure of our own beside each row, and there is a reason for that. A two wheel balance on a driveway in Rutherglen at eleven in the morning and a four wheel balance on a Transit at a delivery stop at nine at night are not the same job. Wheel size, vehicle, distance and time of day all move it.
Tell us your postcode and your wheel size and you get your number on the phone, before anybody sets off. That number does not change on the driveway.
Want a price now? Call or WhatsApp 07955 533000. Give us your postcode and your wheel size and we will quote you before the van moves. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with an average arrival of 30 to 45 minutes across Glasgow.
What Is Wheel Balancing, In Plain English?
A tyre and a wheel are never perfectly even in weight. The rubber varies slightly, the rim varies slightly, and even the valve adds a little on one side. Put them together and one part of the assembly is heavier than the rest.
At walking pace that is irrelevant. At 65mph that wheel is turning roughly fourteen times a second, and the heavy spot throws the whole assembly out of round on every single rotation.
The balancer fixes it. The wheel comes off the car and goes onto the machine, which spins it and works out exactly where the heavy spot is and how many grams it is out. Small lead-free wheel weights then go on the opposite side of the rim to cancel it out.
You would be amazed how much difference fifteen grams makes at seventy. That is roughly the weight of three pound coins, and it is enough to shake a steering wheel.
Static Versus Dynamic Balancing
Static balancing corrects up and down bounce only. Dynamic balancing corrects that plus the side to side wobble, which is the one you actually feel through the steering.
Any modern digital balancer, including the one on our vans, does dynamic. It is the standard, not an upgrade, and nobody should be charging you extra for it.
Balancing Is Not Wheel Alignment
These get mixed up constantly, so worth being clear.
Balancing is about weight. It stops the wheel shaking. Alignment is about angles. It stops the car pulling to one side and stops the tyres wearing on one edge.
They are separate jobs with separate prices. Four wheel alignment runs roughly £62 to £78 according to Checkatrade’s cost guide, with a front pair around £30 to £40.
We do balancing. We do not do four wheel laser alignment, because that needs a ramp and a fixed rig, and no honest mobile operator will tell you otherwise. If your car is pulling rather than shaking, you need a garage with an alignment bay, and we will say so on the phone rather than sending a van out.
Why Does Mobile Wheel Balancing Cost More Than £7.99?
Straight answer: because we come to you, and that costs money.
A fast fit centre balances twenty wheels an hour from a fixed bay. The machine is bolted to the floor and the customers queue up. Their cost per wheel is tiny, which is exactly why they can advertise £7.99.
Our technician drives to your address, works on your car and only your car, then drives to the next one. You are paying for the journey and for a technician’s exclusive time, not just for the spin of a machine. A fitting van kitted out with an on-board balancer, a tyre machine, a calibrated torque wrench and lighting is a serious piece of equipment to run.
Now the other side of the ledger, because the £7.99 is not the real cost of a garage balance either.
- No half day off work, and no unpaid morning if you are self-employed
- No sitting in a waiting room with a vending machine coffee
- No twelve mile drive there and back in a car that is already vibrating
- No risk of driving on a tyre that might have a broken belt rather than a balance problem
- Available at nine at night on a Sunday, which no fast fit centre is
I would rather explain that honestly than pretend we are the same price as Halfords. We are not, and we never claimed to be. What we are is the option where your car never leaves your street.
What Is Included In The Price
Every balance we do covers the lot.
- Wheel removal, including locking wheel nut if you have the key
- Visual inspection of the rim and the inner sidewall before anything else
- Removal of the old weights and cleaning of the rim face
- Digital spin balance on the van’s on-board balancer
- Adhesive weights on alloys, clip-on weights on steel rims
- A verification spin to confirm it reads zero
- Refit and torque to the manufacturer’s setting with a torque wrench
- Tyre pressure reset to the figure on your door pillar
- Tread depth check against the 1.6mm legal limit
Whether a separate callout applies depends on the job and the distance, and it is included in the single figure you are quoted on the phone. One number, said once, covering everything above.
Signs You Need Your Wheels Balanced
Here is something worth knowing before you ring anybody. A wobble you feel through the steering wheel is usually a front wheel. A buzz you feel through the seat or the floor is usually a rear one. That one sentence saves a lot of guessing.
The common symptoms:
- Steering wheel vibration between 50 and 70mph. The classic. It usually fades again above 75, which confuses people.
- A buzz through the seat or floor at speed. Rear wheel imbalance.
- Uneven or feathered tread wear. The tyre is bouncing microscopically and scrubbing off rubber unevenly.
- A new wobble right after new tyres were fitted. Either it was not balanced properly or a weight has come straight off.
- A wobble that appeared the day after a pothole. Very common on Glasgow routes.
It Might Not Be Balancing At All
This is the part the chain websites leave out, and it matters more than the price.
A vibration can also be a buckled alloy from a kerb or a pothole, a separated tyre belt where the internal structure has failed, a worn hub bearing, or a sticking brake caliper. Each feels slightly different. A heavy wobble at low speed, for instance, is usually not simple imbalance.
Nine times out of ten, a wobble that only shows up above 55mph is a balance job. Below that, I start looking at the rim.
Our technician checks the rims and the tyres before charging you for a balance. If the fault is a buckled alloy, no amount of weights will fix it and we will tell you so rather than taking your money twice.
How Many Wheels Do You Actually Need Balanced?
Not always four. Here is the honest guide.
One wheel is enough if a single tyre has just been replaced or a puncture has been repaired on that corner. The bead was broken, so it needs rebalancing, but the other three were never touched.
The front pair if the vibration is in the steering wheel and nothing else has been disturbed.
All four if you feel it through the seat as well as the wheel, or if you genuinely cannot tell which corner it is coming from. Also worth doing all four if the tyres are a few years old and have never been rebalanced.
I will not sell you four wheels when the fault is in one. I will tell you which one and why.
Real Jobs: What Mobile Balancing Looks Like In Glasgow
A driveway in Bearsden, Tuesday, 7.40am. A Volkswagen Golf on 17 inch alloys, commuter, with a steering shimmy that only appeared between 60 and 70mph on the M8 into town. She had new front tyres fitted three weeks earlier at a discount fitter and assumed the tyres were faulty.
They were not. Both fronts came off and two adhesive weights had detached from the inside of the nearside rim, almost certainly knocked loose by a pothole. The rim face was cleaned properly, both fronts were rebalanced, and the nuts were torqued to spec. Away in under 35 minutes, before work started.
A two wheel mobile balance, which sits in the £30 to £55 band. Adhesive weights come off, and it is not always the tyre that is wrong.
A delivery stop in Polmadie, Thursday, 1pm. A self-employed parcel courier in a Ford Transit with a buzz through the floor that got worse as the van filled up through the day. Three hours in a fast fit queue would have cost him more than the tyres were worth.
We met him at a drop, balanced all four, and found two things. One rear had lost a clip-on weight. Another had a small stone wedged in the tread that was making it worse. Forty five minutes, and the van never left the kerb.
For anyone who earns by the hour on the road, the mobile premium is smaller than the downtime it saves. That job paid for itself before he finished the round.
A street in Rutherglen, Sunday, 9.15pm. A parent noticed a strong wobble driving home from her mother’s and had a nursery run in the morning. She rang at nine in the evening, which is precisely the hour when nothing else is open.
The technician was there just after half past. Because it was a heavy wobble at low speed rather than a high speed shimmy, he checked all four rims for buckling first. One front alloy had been lightly kerbed, and a rear was genuinely out of balance. He rebalanced the rear and told her straight that the front needed a specialist alloy refurb, not more weights.
She paid for one balance, not four. Honest diagnosis first, and being available at nine on a Sunday matters when the morning is not optional.
Mobile Versus Garage Balancing: An Honest Comparison
| Mobile balance | Garage or fast fit | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per wheel | £15 to £30 | £7.99 to £15 |
| Travel time | None, we come to you | 20 to 40 minutes each way |
| Total time off your day | 15 to 20 minutes per wheel, at home | Often half a morning |
| Availability | 24 hours, 7 days, bank holidays | Opening hours only |
| If the tyre is damaged | Dealt with there and then | You may be sent away for a new tyre |
| If the car cannot be driven | No problem at all | Not an option |
Verdict: a garage wins on pure price, and if you live near one and have a free morning, use it. We win on everything else. That is the whole positioning, and there is no point dressing it up.
Wheel Balancing Costs Across Glasgow And Scotland
Glasgow And The Central Belt
We work from 100 Jessie St, Polmadie, and cover every postcode from G1 to G84, plus Paisley, East Kilbride, Clydebank, Rutherglen, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Hamilton, Motherwell, Wishaw and Kilmarnock.
The M8, M74 and M77 are where imbalance announces itself. Nobody notices a wobble at thirty in traffic. Get on a slip road, settle at sixty five, and there it is.
Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen And Beyond
Coverage extends to Edinburgh, Perth, Stirling, Falkirk, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Ayr, plus Carlisle over the border. Distance affects the quote for the longer runs, which is why we give you a figure on the phone rather than a website number that ignores where you are.
Rural And Highland Drivers
On the A9 and the A82, the nearest garage with a balancer can be a fifty mile round trip and most of a working day.
One job near Inverness on a Friday afternoon was exactly that. Persistent vibration, no realistic garage option, so the van came out, balanced two wheels on the driver’s own farm track and checked the spare while it was there. Out there, mobile balancing is not a premium option. It is the practical one.
Does Winter And The Glasgow Road Surface Make It Worse?
Yes, noticeably, and this is something a national price page will never tell you.
- Road salt gets under adhesive weight tape. Glasgow roads eat adhesive weights. Salt works under the tape in January and by March they are lying on a carriageway somewhere. That is why a car balanced perfectly in autumn can develop a shimmy in spring with nothing else having changed.
- Potholes knock clip-on weights off steel rims. A hard enough hit will do it, and you will not hear it happen.
- Tight tenement streets mean kerbing. Parallel parking on a narrow street is how most alloys get their first buckle, and a buckled rim will not balance out.
If your wheels were balanced last week and it is wobbling this week, something has come off. That is not a rebalance, that is a look.
Common Worries About Paying For Wheel Balancing
“Is balancing just an upsell?”
No, it is physics, and you can prove it to yourself. Ask the fitter how many grams out your wheel read on the machine before and after. A wheel that reads 25 grams out at the front will shake at motorway speed every time. What would be an upsell is charging you for four when one is at fault, which is why we diagnose before we quote.
“Is it free when I buy new tyres?”
Balancing is included in the fitted price of a new tyre with any reputable fitter, including us. It is not a separate line and you should not be charged twice for it. If someone hands you an invoice with a new tyre and a balancing charge listed separately, ask why.
“Can a van really balance as well as a garage machine?”
Yes. The on-board balancer is the same class of digital machine you would find in a bay, and it is calibrated the same way. The wheel comes off the car either way. The only difference with us is that the car never leaves your street.
“Will you add a callout charge when you arrive?”
No. Whatever the travel is worth is already inside the single figure you were quoted on the phone. There is no second number at the end of the job. If you were quoted before we set off, that is what you pay.
“My car is only worth £1,500, is it worth it?”
Often yes, and here is the reasoning. An unbalanced wheel scrubs tread off unevenly, which shortens the life of a tyre that cost you far more than the balance. It also puts constant vibration through the suspension. On a cheap car, protecting the tyres is exactly where the money should go.
Mobile Wheel Balancing FAQs
How much does it cost to balance one wheel? Around £15 to £30 per wheel for a mobile balance, against roughly £7.99 to £15 at a fixed garage. The mobile figure covers the van coming to your home, work or roadside. Ring 07955 533000 with your postcode and wheel size for your own number.
How much does it cost to balance four wheels? Roughly £50 to £90 for a mobile set of four across the UK market, or about £32 to £60 at a fast fit centre if you can drive the car in. A full set takes 45 to 60 minutes on a driveway.
Is wheel balancing included when I buy new tyres? Yes, with any reputable fitter. When we supply and fit a tyre, the balance is part of the job and not a separate charge. The wheel is already off and the bead already broken, so it would be strange to charge for it twice.
How long does mobile wheel balancing take? About 15 to 20 minutes per wheel, so 45 to 60 minutes for a full set of four. Add our typical Glasgow arrival of 30 to 45 minutes and most single or two wheel jobs are finished within the hour of you ringing.
How often should wheels be rebalanced? Roughly every 10,000 to 12,000 miles, or any time symptoms appear. Also rebalance after a puncture repair or a new tyre, because the bead has been broken and the weights may have been disturbed.
What is the difference between wheel balancing and wheel alignment? Balancing corrects weight distribution and stops the wheel shaking. Alignment corrects the angles of the wheels and stops the car pulling or wearing tyres on one edge. Different jobs, different prices, and alignment costs are covered here. Alignment needs a ramp and a fixed rig, so it is a garage job.
Do you need to balance all four wheels at once? No. One wheel is enough after a single tyre change or puncture repair. The front pair is usually right if the shimmy is in the steering. All four is worth it if you feel it in the seat too, or cannot tell which corner it is.
Can unbalanced wheels damage my car? Over time, yes. Constant vibration accelerates uneven tread wear, and shortens the life of shock absorbers, wheel bearings and steering components. The balance is a small job protecting parts that cost considerably more.
Does wheel balancing fail an MOT? Not directly, no. There is no MOT test for wheel balance. However the uneven and feathered tread wear that imbalance causes can absolutely fail you, and so can dropping below the 1.6mm legal tread depth in a patch you did not notice.
Do you balance alloy wheels and van wheels? Yes to both. Alloys take adhesive weights on the inside of the rim, steel rims take clip-on weights on the lip. Van and light commercial wheels take longer and need more weight, so they are priced a little higher.
Can you balance wheels at night or at the weekend? Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. Nine at night on a Sunday is a perfectly normal call for us, and it is often when people finally get the chance to ring.
Do you charge a callout fee for wheel balancing in Glasgow? You get one figure on the phone that covers everything, including getting to you. Nothing is added when we arrive. Tell us the postcode and the wheel size and you will have that figure in a couple of minutes.
